Micropropagation of plants is a multibillion-dollar
industry being practiced in hundreds of small and large nurseries
and biotech labs throughout the world. Presently it is the only
component of plant biotechnology, which has been commercially exploited
on such a large scale. It is practiced over five decades especially
for ornamental plants and now has been extended to different agriculture/
hoticulture and plantation crops.
During the past 40 years, a whole new industry based on in vitro
plant propagation has developed. Worldwide millions of plants are
produced through micropropagation. Ornamental industry has applied
immensely micropropagation approaches for large-scale multiplication
of elite superior varieties. Micropropagation allows.
